All bridges – Washington St., Main St., Eagle St. and Jefferson Ave. – that lead to downtown Naperville have been reopened, for now, and the Friday evening commute. The DuPage watershed is slowly returning to normal.
Major roadways that will remain closed throughout the evening commute include Naper Boulevard from Abbeywood to Dunrobin and Washington Street south of Royce Road.
As water from the DuPage River recedes, motorists and pedestrians are encouraged to proceed with caution while traveling through and around downtown Naperville. There is still standing water on several streets and bridges, so motorists may need to proceed single file.
The National Weather Service is forecasting a 30 percent chance for precipitation Friday evening, including scattered showers and a slight chance of snow between 7 – 9PM. A flood warning remains in effect until 7:30AM Saturday morning.
The DuPage River and area rivers may stay above flood stage for several days. Information on the Fawell Dam and McDowell Forest Preserve can be found by visiting ec.dupageco.org.
As flood recovery continues, Naperville residents who have utilized sand bags and need to dispose of them should contact the Department of Public Works at (630) 420-6095 and provide their address for pickup. Sand bags should be placed out on the curb.
