On February 15 the Fry Family YMCA opened a new wing dedicated to young children and families. The capital expansion of 5300 sq. ft. includes a family lounge area with viewing to the swimming pool, a family locker room with 11 private changing and shower rooms and two early childhood development classrooms.
Excitement was high at the Ribbon Cutting attended by members of the business community, chamber members and service clubs.
I acted as emcee while David Hanneman, Fry YMCA Board Chair, welcomed and thanked everyone for attending. Eighth-grader Justin Parker spoke of his experiences attending Safe and Sound and Safari Camp since second grade. Our own Mayor Pradel read a proclamation commemorating the good works of the YMCA’s in Naperville since 1911.
Dick Malone, President and CEO of the YMCA of Metro Chicago shared the following thoughts, “Through this new 5,300 ft addition at the Fry Family Y, we will enable children to have earlier and more continued success in learning and social development, through the preschool and kindergarten programs we’ll offer this fall. For the entire family, we’re happy to create a dedicated space where they can gather to have fun, engage in healthy living and spend more time together, which is what the YMCA is all about.”
Ray McGury, Executive Director of the Naperville Park District, pinch hit for Mike Evans, CEO of the Naperville Chamber who was delayed at a previous meeting and unable to attend.
