Pulse of Naperville Music Scene – Styx and we

-

Since October 15, 2010 I’ve seen Styx 15 times. My 15-year old son, Nathaniel, has seen them 14 times. And my 12-year old daughter, Bridget, has 12 shows under her belt.

Styx

So, when we got the fan club email announcing another Ribfest appearance by Styx, you can imagine the excitement that rippled through our home.

Styx is the only band announced thus far, but that’s more than enough for my family. Styx last appeared at Exchange Club’s Ribfest on July 2, 2011, and they make their return to Naperville’s Knoch Park almost two years to the day later with a performance set for 2013 Ribfest’s opening day on July 3.

Over the past two years, we have traveled to various locations in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan to see our rock heroes. So many of these road trips have provided great concert experiences, but the memorable family moments are what lives with us. The times we sat in the front row together. The times we caught guitar picks, blankets, and drumsticks. The times we met the band and took photos with them. And perhaps the greatest part of any Styx show is getting together with a group of friends that call themselves Styx Chyx. So many of these rabid fans have become part of our extended family.

For those unaware, Styx leave their softer hits behind. They’ll pack their set with hard rocking songs and a high energy punch in the gut that is unrelenting from beginning to end. There’s no doubt that this year’s Ribfest will ROCK!
