Ed’s Many Hats — Be thankful for good times at home

-

Many of you know I’ve lived in Thrillville since 1960.

There’s no place I’d rather be—except when the refreshing breezes from the north turn into 40 mph gales, as it usually does around November 1. That’s when my mind wanders elsewhere to Florida. Then Kathy and I will pack up our zoo and hit the road for Florida a few days after Thanksgiving.

We enjoyed a wonderful summer and autumn. At times it was a little hot and dry, but, hey, who’s complaining?

Our summer started when we returned home May 1. Soon after we got settled lunches, dinners and parties started breaking out. Invitations from the O’Donnells, Joe Modaff, Phillips, Nothackers, Zaijecks and Boboskys were treats we miss when we’re away.

We enjoyed many impromptu evening swim parties at our house, also. A special bright spot of my summer was having our grandkids—TT, Gracie, Cole, Haley —and many of their friends hanging out at our pool. I love having them around because they’re so full of life and super positive energy.

One of the best highlights for us is the grandparent-grandchild swim party. We invite all our friends who are grandparents to bring their grand kids over for a Sunday afternoon of swimming and cook out. What started out to be just for grandparent- grandchildren has grown into a full blown family affair. All the grand kids bring mom and dad, too. It’s great!

I’m blessed with many special friends in my life and I wish I could thank each by name, but there’s not enough space allotted here. So let me simply thank one special group, my golf group. I love spending time with them. From the time I get home in spring until I leave in November, my buddies John James, Ray Jones, Joe Modaff, Jack Nothacker, Tom O’Donnell, Mike Phillips, Jon Ripsky, Frank Slocumb, Mike Skarr, Bill Peters, Mike Krol, Bo Bobosky and I wreck two golf courses a week.

Truth is, golf is just an excuse to hang out together. It could be anything. For instance, we thought about fishing, but half of us can’t swim.

If you see me before Thanksgiving, be sure to give me a hug that will last until May.

PN Ombudsman
An ombudsman is Scandinavian in origin dating back to Viking times; and refers to a community representative; usually acting independently on behalf of an organization, body of elected officials, or civic group. Thanks Scandinavia for inventing ombudsman.
