During the Riverwalk 2000 fundraiser launched in 1997, the Daily Herald sponsored a “Buy a Brick” ad campaign featuring different residents holding the “Your Name Here” brick.

Chat with Chief Marshall May 6

NPD Chief Bob Marshall

Naperville Police Chief Robert Marshall invites the community to Naperville’s next “Chat with the Chief” on Saturday, May 6.

This informal meet-and-greet with the Chief and members of his senior staff will be held from 8:30 to 10AM at Panera Bread, 1191 E. Ogden Avenue.

“The thing I’ve come to enjoy most about these chats is that citizens truly drive the conversation,” said Chief Marshall in the news release. “I love having the opportunity to get out into the community to simply listen and answer questions. I hope citizens can take a few minutes out of their Saturday to come have a cup of coffee and chat with me and my deputy chiefs.

Outdoor sculpture display is one for the books

Downtown Naperville is set to turn another page this summer with its latest edition of outdoor sculptures. For 2017, downtown will feature 15 “book benches” that will dot the landscape with artistic style and themes throughout the central business district.

When the fiberglass sculptures arrived in late March, they were presented to artists who will design their covers to put on display Father’s Day weekend. The book benches will be on exhibit until mid-September.

In addition, the Saturday before Father’s Day, June 17, the Downtown Naperville Alliance will host another vintage car show along Jackson Avenue. Space is limited. Before the car show opens up for new entries, registration is by invitation to the 100 entries that have participated in recent years, organizer Katie Wood said.
