July highlights at Naper Settlement

Camp Naper: Summer Day Camp

Is your child an explorer, detective, scientist, artist or all of the above? Camp Naper offers 12 acres of epic experiences for children in grades 1 to 8 from through Aug. 5. One-day, two-day, three-day and weeklong camps offer a variety of enrichment activities including STEM exploration, cooking, art, music and more. Our unique hands-on history camps such as the Civil War Camp provide an immersive adventure where learning is fun. Third Thursday Thinkers

Every third Thursday of the month through August, drop by Naper Settlement’s Harvard Early Learning Playscape to experience history in unexpected ways. June’s theme is Animal Tracking. Discover the animals of Illinois by identifying tracks and signs from 10:30 to 11AM (ages 2–5) and 2 to 2:30PM (ages 5–7) Thursday, June 16. Take your young thinkers on a museum adventure, use your senses and discover what makes Illinois unique. Little fingers will experiment with painting, gluing, sticking and creating, while developing fine motor skills. Free with paid admission. Visit www.napersettlement.org or call (630) 420-6010.

Naper Nights

Naper Nights sets the stage for nonstop music. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy music under the stars on the grounds of Naper Settlement throughout select summer weekends. Childrens activities include Pinots Palette, Pro Martial Arts, SciTech and Bright Horizons. No outside food or beverages are allowed. OMT 6-7:30 PM (Classic Rock to Today) Mike & Joe 8:15-10PM on Friday, July 22 (Modern Pop & Rock). Killer Queen 6-7:30PM (Queen Tribute) Landslide 8:15-10PM (Fleetwood Mac Tribute) on Saturday, July 23. Food provided by Kick’s Chicken Caf, Beverages provided by Rodney Strong Vineyards and Bells Brewery. More info at www.napernights.org.

Mini Makers Day

A fun for the whole family event, Mini Maker Day begining at 1PM on Sunday, July 24 exposes children, teens and adults to the history of tradesmen (the original makers) and the art, science, technology and craftiness of the Maker Movement today. Guests can watch live demonstrations, participate in hands-on workshops and activities, converse with expert Makers in radically different fields and experiment with tech-enabled gadgets like 3D printers. Opportunities for guests of all ages to put their hands and minds to work designing, problem-solving and building. Admission includes free sundaes from Colonial Cafe with do-it-yourself toppings. Ice cream is served from 2 to 3:30PM and is limited to the first 200 guests.

Meet This Old House – Murray Building

Your reserved place in these special building tours allows you to come under the ropes to walk in the footsteps once trod by Naperville’s early residents and engage with museum experts about the significance of each of the structures. In July, tour the Hobson Law Office within the Murray Building, led by the museum’s Curator of Research Bryan Ogg and guest tour guide Attorney Keith Letsche to learn about 19th century law practices. Letsche is a historian, an avid antiques collector and the former president of the DuPage County Historical Society, the Greater Chicago Chapter of the Victorian Society in America and the Garfield Heritage Society. Ages 13+ only. Includes stair climbing. $15/person; $12/Settlement-6 members and above; Reservations Required.
