A year ago this month, Driscoll, 22, and her rescue greyhound both died after being struck by a car while crossing an intersection in Naperville.

The Driscoll family and the animal rescue group, Greyhounds Only, will host the memorial blood drive and Greyhound adoption event at the LifeSource Community Donor Center, located at 2764 Aurora Ave. in Naperville.

Nearby Culver’s of Aurora will be on site to dish out free scoops of custard, while Culver’s owners Jim and Judy DiVerde will donate 10 percent of that day’s Culver’s lunchtime sales to Greyhounds Only.

Appointments, Walk-ins Welcome

Appointments for the Emily Driscoll Memorial Blood Drive are preferred, but all walk-ins are welcome. Donors can schedule their appointment by calling LifeSource at (877) 543-3768 or visiting www.lifesource.org.

Blood donors must be at least 17 years old (or 16 years old with parental consent). In preparation for their donation, donors are asked to eat well, stay hydrated and arrive with proper identification.

In preparation to give the gift of life, donors are asked to eat well, stay hydrated and arrive with proper identification. As Illinois’ largest blood center, LifeSource hosts’ blood drives daily and also operates community donor centers across the greater Chicago area.

As the busy holiday season and winter approaches, blood supplies need to be replenished to meet the needs, especially for Type O+ blood and Type O- blood.  Type O+ blood is the most common and most frequently used while Type O- is the universal blood donor.
