Fire Department Trains Local Business in CPR

-

The staff at Colbert Custom Framing & Art Printing recently underwent training in CPR and the use of the company’s recently acquired AED unit, thanks to the Naperville Fire Department and Chief Mark Puknaitis.

Eight staff members, under the tutelage of Firefighter Paramedic Andy Winkler participated in the onsite training in adult, child, and infant CPR, as well as choking first aid and the use of the AED unit that will be housed onsite at the Naperville facility in Market Meadows Plaza.

“AEDs are easy to use and save thousands of lives each year,” said Naperville Fire Chief Mark Puknaitis.

The automated external defibrillator (AED), is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses the life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias of ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia in a patient, and is able to treat them through defibrillation, the application of electrical therapy which stops the arrhythmia, allowing the heart to reestablish an effective rhythm. With simple audio and visual commands, AEDs are designed to be simple to use for the layperson.

“We certainly hope we never have to use it,” said owner Sue Colbert. “But if it ever becomes necessary, we are prepared.”

PN Ombudsman
An ombudsman is Scandinavian in origin dating back to Viking times; and refers to a community representative; usually acting independently on behalf of an organization, body of elected officials, or civic group. Thanks Scandinavia for inventing ombudsman.
