Veterans in Touch – Honor Veterans by informed voting

-

Mike BarbourTimes when I go to the dark areas of my psyche and think about the men I served with who made the ultimate sacrifice or who sustained both physical and mental injuries, one thought keeps coming to the surface. These soldiers made that commitment so that we as a country can have free elections as well as all the other freedoms we enjoy today.

The sad fact is that many of our citizens don’t exercise that right for whatever the reason. That, my friends, is a slap in the face to tens of thousands of the military who have sustained injuries and the 1.2 million soldiers from all wars that made the ultimate sacrifice.

Not all Americans will serve in the military, but as a citizen of this great country it is your duty and responsibility to be an informed voter and vote in all elections both local and national.

We have an election coming up in Naperville to elect a new Mayor and the entire City Council. We have four mayoral candidates and 19 candidates running for the City Council seats.

Fortunately, you have a great source of information about all the candidates on the Positively Naperville website. Go to it, read about the candidates and make an informed decision when you vote.

Chili Cook Off March 14

On another note, once again Naperville is leading the charge. Naperville VFW Post 3873 has the honor of having one of its members, Phil Maughan, become the new VFW State Commander for the 2015-2016 year. There will be a Chili Cook Off on March 14 to help Phil with some of the travel expenses that are associated with that prestigious position. The judges are Mayor Pradel, Police Chief Robert Marshall and Fire Chief Mark Puknaitis.

For more details and entry information, visit www.napervfw3873.org and go to the tab for Chili Cook Off.

Friday Night Fish Fry

Also don’t forget about the weekly Friday Night Fish Fry being held every Friday during Lent through Good Friday at the Naperville VFW. Hours are 5PM to 8PM. Good food, good friends and a good time. Tell your friends, family members and co-workers about the event.
