Naperville Area Chamber PAC announces municipal election endorsements

NACPAC-ChamberThe Naperville Area Chamber Political Action Committee has endorsed eight candidates running for the Naperville City Council and one mayoral candidate in the upcoming April 7, 2015, municipal election. The Chamber’s PAC made its endorsement decision after inviting all candidates to submit a written questionnaire and sit individually for an interview with members of the organization’s board of directors.

NACPAC has endorsed Steve Chirico, a current member of the Naperville City Council and business owner, for the office of mayor.

NACPAC has endorsed the following candidates for the Naperville City Council:

  • Rebecca Boyd-Obarski, attorney focusing on corporate and labor law;
  • Judy Brodhead, incumbent and professor at North Central College;
  • Kevin Coyne, attorney with focus in small business and real estate issues;
  • Patricia (Patty) Gustin, local real estate broker;
  • Robert Hajek, sales executive for a major computer manufacturer;
  • Paul Hinterlong, incumbent and business agent for a local union;
  • John Krummen, engineering executive and adjunct business faculty at Benedictine and Concordia Universities; and
  • Steve Peterson, operator of an online IT security training business.

Upon making these endorsements NACPAC released the following statement:

“These candidates understand that a growing economy is important to maintaining a high quality of life and excellent services for residents, businesses and consumers. They understand the economic and other challenges that will face the City of Naperville in the coming years, as well as the challenges faced by our community’s businesses and residents. These individuals have diverse skills and professional backgrounds and will be excellent stewards of the community’s resources, efficiently use tax dollars, champion business growth and encourage economic opportunity for area residents and businesses. They stand out as the most qualified, accountable and visionary leaders in a crowded field of candidates, and the Naperville Area Chamber’s PAC encourages their election on April 7.”

Editor’s Notes, Feb. 23, 2015

With six weeks until the April 7, 2015 Consolidated Election, time remains to get to know all the candidates as different groups announce their endorsements and present public forums. In addition, individual  candidates will host meets and greets. For a list of upcoming opportunities to get to know all the candidates, visit PN’s long list of candidate events.

Note five candidate forums are scheduled by the Naperville Area Homeowners Confederation in March. The final NAHC City Council Forum featuring 10 candidates is slated for March 26.

Early Voting runs Mon. March 23, through Sat. April 4, 2015, at the Naperville Municipal Center. Weekdays are 8:30AM-7:30PM. Saturdays are 9AM-5PM. Sunday, March 29, is 10AM-4PM.

If you’re undecided, perhaps wait to vote until after all public forums. Two important NAHC forums, each featuring 10 of the 20 candidates for City Council are slated for March 24 and March 26 in Council Chambers.

Polls will be open from 6AM-7PM on Tues., April 7.

On Feb. 22, 2015, The Daily Herald published its endorsements that included Steve Chirico for Naperville Mayor; and Paul Hinterlong, Judith Brodhead, Dave Wentz, Becky Anderson, John Krummen, Kevin Gallaher, Patty Gustin and Bill Eagan for Naperville City Council.

The Illinois Association of Realtors and other media outlets are expected to release their endorsements soon, too.

Info & Voter Registration

For information about the election, residents can call DuPage County Election Commission at (630) 407-5600 and the Will County Election Commission at (815) 740-4615.

Voter Registration ends on Tues., March 10, 2015. Register in the City Clerk’s Office, 400 S. Eagle Street, with two pieces of identification—a photo ID and identification that shows your current address.

College of DuPage in the News

Three six-year term College Trustee positions are open on the College of DuPage Board of Trustees, Community College District #502 for the April 7, 2015, Consolidated Election.

Two incumbents, Kim Savage and Nancy Svoboda, are running for re-election on the seven-member COD Board. A third trustee whose term will expire chose not to seek another term.

Ballot Order: Nancy Svoboda, Sandra Pihos, Matt Gambs, Kim Savage, Claire Ball, Charles Bernstein, Frank Napolitano, Deanne Marie Mazzochi, Roger Kempa, Joseph M. Wozniak, David Carlin and Dan Bailey.

No one can deny the controversy, replete with law suits, FOIA requests, citizen and media backlash (Simply search COD online or College of DuPage or visit www.cod.edu.), that has made headlines in recent months at COD. More than 29,000 students choose to seek  higher education at the community college. Every single one of the 12 candidates running to serve deserves your in attention before three hopefuls are elected. Several of the candidates reside in Naperville.  Get to know them. Will they represent your voice for the benefit of higher public education on the College of DuPage Board of Trustees?
