The exhilarating joyfulness of the holiday season is fast approaching and Dr. Music is talking about demons. I know it seems a little Scrooge-like, but allow me to explain.
I recently had the opportunity to attend the Gene Simmons book signing event presented by Anderson’s Bookshop at the Tivoli Theater in nearby Downers Grove. The Kiss bass player that I saw breathe fire and spit blood while dressed like a winged demon in Kabuki makeup in 1977, stood beside me for a family photo and took a “selfie” with my daughter. Oh my, how times change.
Simmons was promoting his new book, Me, Inc.: Build an Army of One, Unleash Your Inner Rock God, Win in Life and Business, in which he shares his proven business strategies.
The 65-year-old Simmons didn’t sacrifice any goats or attack any small children. Instead, he was an incredibly gracious and playful host to fans of every age. Watching this rock icon hold babies, put his sunglasses on fans, and play with my daughter’s hair was something very special. Often thought of as a negative force or a “bad guy,” Simmons disproved that stigma by being an extremely positive influence for everyone in attendance.
I also was able to purchase autographed books by Grammy-winning jazz great Herbie Hancock and Aerosmith’s Joe Perry from Anderson’s Bookshop. I highly recommend visiting the Anderson’s website this gift-giving season to find a piece of these joyful book signing experiences.
