The City of Naperville will conduct a public test of its new notification system Naper Notify beginning at 1PM on Tues., March 4. This test will include all individuals who have entered their contact data into the system since its launch in November 2013 as well as all publicly listed Naperville phone numbers in the White and Yellow Pages.
This test is being performed in conjunction with Illinois Severe Weather Preparedness Week and is meant to increase awareness about Naper Notify and its ability to inform the community of emergency and informational messages as well as test the functionality of the system and its contacts.
During the test, residents and businesses can expect to receive a phone call, text message, email and/or smart phone app notification, depending on whether they have included these particular contact methods during registration in Naper Notify. Publicly listed White and Yellow Pages Naperville phone numbers can expect to receive a phone call, as the City has imported this public data into its Naper Notify system.
The message sent will be as follows:
Subject line: This is a TEST of the Naper Notify Notification System
Body of message: This is only a test. In the event of an actual emergency, the City of Naperville would use its Naper Notify notification system to alert the community to an incident impacting life, safety, or property. The City has publicly listed White and Yellow pages data in its system and is also testing these numbers. Again, this is only a test. Please confirm receipt of this message. For questions or concerns, please call (630) 420-6707.
When you receive the message, please make sure to confirm receipt of the message following the instructions provided. This will help the City verify its system data and ensure that in the event of an emergency, the community could be quickly and efficiently notified of important life safety information.
Launched by the City of Naperville in November 2013, Naper Notify lets the public sign up to receive emergency and community messages through a preferred method of communication. This could include a cell phone, work phone, home phone, text message or email. Citizens and the general public can also choose the locations they want to be contacted about. They can receive messages about emergencies that may affect their homes, parents’ homes, workplaces, children’s schools or any other location of interest and importance to them as long as those locations are within the boundaries of the City of Naperville.
To enroll in Naper Notify and provide your preferred contact information into the system, please visit www.napernotify.com. Individuals who need assistance registering for Naper Notify can email napernotify@naperville.il.us or call (630) 420-6707 and a City staff member will contact the person to assist.
