The Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce will present retiring Illinois Chamber of Commerce President & CEO, Doug Whitley, with a Distinguished Public Service Award during its annual black-tie gala. The Chamber gives this special recognition to individuals who have made significant contributions to the business community.
“Doug resurrected the Illinois State Chamber and in doing so helped businesses of all sizes and industries through a challenging business climate,” said Tom Kallay, chairman of the board for the Naperville Chamber, and executive with Nicor Gas. “Doug reestablished the State Chamber and its members as a respected voice of the business community and job creators.”
Whitley has been a frequent visitor to Naperville speaking numerous times at General Membership Luncheons and Legislative Committee meetings. Additionally, area businesses are accustomed to visiting with the State Chamber during visits to Springfield.
“The Naperville Area Chamber would not have been able to achieve our successes without Doug Whitley and a strong Illinois Chamber. I know Members will appreciate the opportunity to demonstrate our gratitude and appreciation for all of the time and energy Doug put into his role as an advocate for our businesses,” said Kallay.
Whitley’s service to both the public and private sectors has made him an expert in taxation and regulation. Prior to joining the chamber he was president of Ameritech Illinois, served two years as the Director of the Illinois Department of Revenue during Gov. Edgar’s administration, and was president of the Taxpayer’s Federation of Illinois for 14 years. After 12 years of leading the Illinois Chamber, Whitley announced his retirement effective June 2014.
The award will be presented during the chamber’s Inaugural Gala & Silent Auction taking place January 24, at Bobak’s Signature Events in Woodridge.
