Even before the temperatures dropped way below freezing last week, the staff at Beebe had begun organizing a project to provide new blankets and new books to the students in grades K-3 at Central Elementary in Washington, Ill. The project is called “Beebe Comfort.”
After learning how many of the young students were not able to return to their homes after the devastating tornadoes on Nov. 17, “it struck a chord that it must be so difficult for them to feel safe even if they are able to return to their homes before the holidays,” noted Chuck Freundt, Principal at Beebe Elementary School.
“We want them to know there are others out there who care about them and want to comfort them through this difficult time. Our students feel blankets and books would go a long way,” Freundt added.
Freundt sent out a letter to Beebe school community last week and also would like to give other members in the community the opportunity to join their initiative. Â He estimates the cost to purchase new blankets and new books for 600 students will be $5,100.
School District 203 is helping to spread the word so the Beebe students can reach their goal to deliver at least a blanket and one book to each of the 600 students in that school before the winter break.
Donations of any size—from pocket change to dollar bills to corporate checks—are welcome and appreciated.
Make checks payable to “Beebe Allied” and drop off or send to the school by Dec. 13, 2013. Beebe Elementary School is located at 110 East 11th Avenue, Naperville, Ill 60563.
