At 2:01PM on Friday afternoon (09/27/19), Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a 911 call for the possible structure fire at the single-family residence located in the 400 block of Franklin Ave.
Naperville 911(PSAP) dispatched a General Alarm assignment to the reported address which consisted of 10 pieces of fire apparatus and brought 24 fire personnel to the scene.
Prior to arrival of fire units, neighbors reported seeing flames from the rear of the home at the roof line. The first fire unit arrived on scene at 2:07PM and reported smoke showing from the roof line of the 2-story single-family home.
Fire attack was initiated by the first-arriving truck, medic, and engine companies and a water source was secured. A small fire was found by fire companies inside the attic at the roof of the home. The fire was quickly extinguished and confined to the area of origin. Upon the arrival of additional fire companies, salvage and
overhaul operations were performed. No civilians were home at the time of the event.
Two pet dogs were removed from the home by a neighbor prior to arrival of Naperville Fire department personnel. An inspector from Naperville’s Transportation, Engineering and Development Department (TED) was notified by the Incident Commander. The cause of the fire was found to be a lightning strike to the roof of the residence.
The home was deemed to still be habitable and board up was called to seal up a small hole in the roof.
The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Naperville Police Department. The following agencies provided coverage for Naperville fire stations during this incident; The Warrenville Fire Protection District, The Downers Grove Fire Department and The Wheaton Fire Department.
There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.
