Journey with Autism – Finding guidance

-

When flesh and blood doesn’t make us pleased about ourselves, we often begin to feel cloudy. Doing exercise and eating healthy is positive, but if you’re battling a disability, no amount of healthy activities will make the sad life better.

I’m a man in the prime of his life. I am considered good looking and have more love in my heart than most people. My mind is filled with great thoughts, looming on me like bright blue waves, hitting me on the shores of my brain. Going into the city, I love to be on the train looking at the buildings, landscapes and mountains of sky scrapers pushing onto the bold lakefront. Holding my best, kind mom’s hand, I navigate the crowds without more than a few moments of fear. But I could never live alone or travel out of my home without a guide.

In my looking at more forward future times, I will be with care givers long after my mom is no longer on this journey. I am almost never allowed to move independently, not allowed to walk alone or be alone for any length of time because I am clearly not a great verbal communicator and if I were to have any trouble, mainly I couldn’t be safe.

Having a perfect body or a great looking face is looking for perfection in the more superficial ways. Having a better mind, having a clearer appreciation of a fully working brain is the brightest gift of all.
