The 2019 Inaugural Rooted Acoustic Barn Raising 5K kicks off at 8AM on Sun., Aug. 25 on Main Street at Seven Bridges in Woodridge. Proceeds from the race will benefit the Greene Barn, a significant architectural and cultural presence in the Greene Valley Forest Preserve, adjacent to the eastern edge of Naperville at Hobson and Greene Roads.
“Bill Greene set a high bar with his generosity to future generations,” said Mary Lou Wehrli, committee member. “He was instrumental in moving the chapel to Naper Settlement and donated the 10-acre Greene Farmstead to the forest preserve.”
The barn was stabilized in 2012, but is not yet open to the public.
The Rooted Acoustic Barn Raising 5K culminates at the 175-year-old Greene Barn with farm-to-table food from Naperville restaurant Allegory, live music by Cary Kanno, stretching with a certified yoga instructor, massage, and children’s activities. Free return trip to Main Street in Seven Bridges provided by Naperville Trolley & Tours. Lucky bib numbers may go home with merchant giveaways.
The 1-Mile Kids Dash begins at the Greene Barn at 9AM. This year’s event celebrates the 60th anniversary of Naperville neighbor the Village of Woodridge and the 50th anniversary of the Woodridge Park District.
“History, community, and nature meet at the Greene Barn on the banks of the East Branch of the DuPage River,” added Wehrli. Register at RaceRoster.com/23271.
