August 4, Concert: Hall of fame guitarist Steve Vai has teamed up with his brother Michael Vai (from Naperville’s restaurant “VAI’s Italian Inspired Kitchen + Bar”) for an intimate concert at Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Steve is a three-time Grammy Winner and 14 Grammy Nominations, recipient of all kinds of musical awards including the Les Paul Award. Regarded as the Greatest Guitar Virtuoso that ever played the instrument and some say the best guitarist that ever played. All proceeds will be donated to Little Friends, a nonprofit who supports individuals and families challenged by individual/developmental disabilities and autism. August 5, Golf Outing: Join us for the 2019 Quarterback Club Golf Outing and help us kickoff another exciting season of Cardinal football! Monday, August 5 at White Eagle Golf Club, 3400 Club Dr., Price is $175 per golfer. Check-in is at 11AM., with a shotgun start at noon, dinner is at 5:30PM. Cost of the outing includes lunch, a round of golf, cart rental, beverages on course, dinner and $50 tax-deductible gift to the football program. August 8, Book Signing: Anderson’s Bookshop and North Central College host author Sandra Brown as she welcomes a new novel entitled, “Outfox” that combines passionate romance and shocking plot twists. The book signing is scheduled for Thursday, August 8 at 8PM in Meiley-Swallow Hall, 31 S. Ellsworth Street. In her latest novel, a conman turned murderer is on the loose. August 9-10, Visit Days: High school students and their parents or guardians are invited to attend North Central College’s Visit Days August 9 and 10, in the lobby of the Wentz Concert Hall and Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. The day begins with check-in at 9:15AM and concludes at 12:30PM with lunch at Kaufman Dining Hall. Visitors can take a walking tour and attend informative sessions on financial aid, academic highlights and student life. An optional event for high-achieving students is set for 9AM. August 16, Transfer Info Session: North Central College will host an information session Friday, August 16, for transfer students. Visitors can learn about academic choices, transfer admission process, scholarships and financial aid. Registration begins at 9:30AM at Smith Hall in Old Main, 30 N. August 28, Book Signing: Anderson’s Bookshop and North Central College welcome back Louise Penny to celebrate her latest Chief Inspector Gamache novel “A Better Man!” at 7PM Wednesday, August 28 at Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave. A portion of the evening’s proceeds will benefit the Sounds Good Choir, a local dementia care organization. For tickets, visit www.louisepenny2andersons.brownpapertickets.com.
