Journey with Autism – Let freedom ring

-

The name United States has never been more in question.

I am slamming my brain with music from the play “Hamilton.” The fearsome men who fought for us, the brave and brilliant women who did their best to bring life into perspective, and the soldiers who suffered and died so we could build a place like nowhere on earth has me thinking about the Fourth of July.

Where are the Hamiltons now? Where are the men and women who brought such brilliance and passion to give us a country free of dictators and life with no voice?

When we bring out the grills and make floats and march long lines in parades, when fireworks intensely light the sky, do any of us stop and think of the zeal and sacrifices it took long ago to bring us to where we can be whomever we wish?

Freedom should be our foundation. The freedom to live our best and brightest lives, not the freedom to discriminate and make others bend to our views. The freedom to believe what we feel is right, but not freedom to spread lies and half truths.

We must hold to the belief that all people are created equal and honor our founders with living their values.
