April events at North Central College

Through April 3, Art Exhibit: North Central College will host a collection of photography by the award-winning Nolan McCants. The photographs will be on display until April 3 at the College’s Oesterle Library Gallery, 320 E. School St. McCants is known for immersing himself in the diverse cultures of the world, capturing rich cultural treasures from ordinary life. 

Through May 19, Art Exhibit: North Central College presents a collection by visual artist, curator and creative entrepreneur Sergio Gomez titled “Parallel Stories” until May 19 in the Schoenherr Art Gallery, 171 E. Chicago Ave.

April 6, Theatre: North Central College presents “Pete the Cat,” a family friendly theatre performance based on the popular children’s book at 11AM and 1PM Saturday, April 6, in the Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. The groovy blue cat got caught by the cat-catcher rocking out after bedtime and was sent to live with the Biddle’s, the squarest family of them all. When second-grader Jimmy Biddle needs help on his art test, Pete turns out to be the best friend to have and they set out on a globe-trotting mission. Tickets are $12/adults and $6/children.

April 6, Music: Oakland, California music legends Tower of Power will be performing at North Central College at 8PM Saturday, April 6, in Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave. The most dynamic and distinctive band of survivors in soul music is roaring into its unprecedented 50th anniversary with a new album and celebratory tour. Tickets are $70, $60 and $50.

April 13, Theatre: AlphaBet Soup Productions will present “James and the Giant Peach” at 10:30AM April 11-12, in North Central College’s Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave. This musical brings Roald Dahl’s classic children’s tale to life. For tickets and information visit absproductions.com.

April 11-14, Theatre: North Central College presents a show for all ages with “Action! Shape Your World” from April 11-14. Performers will use movement, music, puppets and dance to explore and name the shapes that surround us every day. Tickets are $10/adults and $8/children, students and seniors.

April 15, Music: North Central College’s Sounds of New Music Festival presents Picosa at 7:30PM Monday, April 15, in the College’s Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Featuring flute, clarinet, violin, cello and piano, Picosa performs its signature symphonic sound with innovative programming, bringing the art of virtuosic chamber music to every concert experience. The concert is free and tickets are not required.

April 16, Music: North Central College’s Concert Winds ensemble perform a return from tour concert at 7PM Tuesday, April 16, at the Wentz Concert Hall, 181 E. Chicago Ave. Tickets are $5/adults and $3/students and seniors.

April 19, Visit Day: High school students and their parents or guardians are invited to attend North Central College’s Visit Day Friday, April 19, in the lobby of the Wentz Concert Hall and Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. The day begins with check-in at 9:15AM and concludes at 12:30PM with lunch at Kaufman Dining Hall. Visitors can take a walking tour and attend informative sessions on financial aid, academic highlights and student life. An optional event for high-achieving students is set for 9AM. April 24, Music: The Youth Symphony of DuPage presents its spring concert at 7:30PM Wednesday, April 24, in North Central College’s Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. For tickets and more information visit ysdp.org.

April 26, Music: North Central College presents “An Evening with Jazz Trombonist Tim Coffman” at 8PM Friday, April 26, at the College’s Madden Theatre, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Tim Coffman is one of the most active trombonists and instructors in the Chicago area, and has performed with famous acts such as Frank Sinatra, Andy Williams, Natalie Cole and was lead trombone for the Chicago Symphony’s production of “Nutcracker.” Tickets are $22/adults and $17/students.

April 27, Music: The Naperville Chorus presents Arthur Honegger’s “King David” at 7:30PM Saturday, April 27, in North Central College’s Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. This epic piece tells the biblical story of the rise and fall of David in addition to other Old Testament related pieces. Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for seniors and students.

April 28, Women’s Half Marathon and 5k: Hosted by North Central College and presented by the Naperville Running Co., the fourth annual Naperville Women’s Half Marathon & 5k will take place on Sunday, April 28. The run starts and ends on North Central’s campus at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium, 455 S. Brainard St. The Half Marathon will start at 7AM and the 5K at 7:45AM. April 30, Music: North Central College presents the Chamber Singers student ensemble for its “Metamorphosis” concert at 7:30PM Tuesday, April 30, in the College’s Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E Chicago Ave. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for seniors and students.
