Portion of Van Buren Parking Deck will close for waterproofing starting November 9

-

Above / Portion of Van Buren Parking Deck, second floor section closest to Main Street, will be inaccessible for approximately two weeks. The Van Buren Parking Deck is located between Washington and Main streets in downtown Naperville. Note, however, that the new 400-space parking deck in the Water Street District opened Friday. Pending weather or unforeseen circumstances, work on the second floor addition to the Van Buren Parking Deck will begin on Wed., Nov. 9. This portion of the deck extends out over the retail units within the Main Street Promenade and will render that area unusable for approximately two weeks.

Work will include removal of the previous waterproofing, cleaning and preparation of the deck as well as application of the new waterproofing material, wall flashing and restriping of parking spaces. Once work begins, there will be no vehicular or pedestrian access to this section of the deck until work is complete.

At this time, work will also begin to a portion of the second floor in the main deck that lies above the mechanical room of the parking deck. However, only half of this area will see work at a time to allow vehicles to continue to drive through and access the W. Benton Avenue exit from the deck.

During all work, signs will be in place with information about the work as it progresses and guiding drivers through or away from work zones entirely.

Allow more time to park, drive cautiously

Drivers are still asked to allow more time to enter and exit the deck while work is being conducted.

Work is expected to be complete by Tues., Nov. 22, 2016. Areas of the deck that are complete ahead of schedule will re-open as they become available.

Parking deck will offer 400 new free, public parking spaces in Downtown Naperville. Pay attention as the public becomes accustomed to the now-operational traffic light and access along Aurora Avenue at Webster Street.

The Water Street Parking Facility will open to motorists at noon on Friday, November 4, offering 400 new, free parking spaces in Naperville’s downtown for public use.

Access to the new parking deck will be from the alley behind the deck. Please note there is no access via Water Street. Of the 520 parking spaces contained in the deck, 400 are available for use by the general public; the remaining 120 are leased by the soon-to-open Hotel Indigo for use by its guests. The deck also features public restrooms for the convenience and comfort of deck users.

Please note that with construction continuing on the Water Street District, the rooftop level of the deck and parking spaces on that level will remain closed for the near future. Barricades are in place to keep motorists from using this level.

Water Street Parking Deck and Southern Tide are now open.

The deck will be part of the parking guidance system viewable on the homepage of the City’s website www.naperville.il.us which lets motorists know how many open spaces are available in the City’s downtown parking decks.

The Water Street District development is a public-private partnership to redevelop the properties along Water Street between Main Street and Webster Street in downtown Naperville. Marquette Property Investments Inc. began construction in April 2015 on the district which will feature several new public amenities, including the parking deck, a reconstructed and improved Riverwalk and a reconstructed Water Street. This district will include a mix of retail shops, restaurants, office space and a Hotel Indigo. The first retail opening will be for Southern Tide on Friday, November 4, with additional openings later this year and into spring 2017.
