March Events at North Central College

Through March 17, Art exhibit: NCC showcases a free art exhibit by artist Madai Taylor through March 17 in the College’s Oesterle Library Gallery, 320 E. School St. Taylor’s paintings demonstrate the challenging use of spontaneity and address themes of disintegration, regeneration and reproduction using organic materials and natural forms.

Through March 27, Art exhibit: NCC showcases a free exhibit titled “Monika Wulfers LINES” by artist Monika Wulfers, a 1968 graduate of the College. The exhibit features linear configurations that form images, paintings and sculptures and is open to the public through March 27 in the College’s Schoenherr Gallery at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave.

March 4, Music: NCC presents “An Evening with Jazz Trombonist Tim Coffman” at 8PM Fri., March 4, in the College’s Madden Theatre at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Coffman will be joined by other members of North Central’s acclaimed jazz faculty. Tickets are $20 and $15.

March 5, Music: NCC presents Chords for Kids, a free concert for children with autism at 7PM Sat., March 5, in the College’s Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. This is North Central’s 10th anniversary concert for children with special needs and their families. Admission is free but tickets are required.

March 5, Dance: NCC presents Giordano Dance Chicago, America’s original jazz dance company, at 8PM Sat., March 5, in the College’s Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave. Giordano Dance will perform a diverse program of works from its critically acclaimed repertoire. Tickets are $35, $25 and $20.

March 6, Theatre: NCC welcomes Theatreworks USA for two performances of “Skippyjon Jones Snow What” at noon and 3PM Sun., March 6, in the College’s Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave. A brand new musical based on the children’s book by Judy Schachner, “Skippyjon Jones Snow What” is a twist on the classic fairytale “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.” Tickets are $12 and $6.

March 6, Music: NCC presents Beckie Menzie and Tom Michael in “That ’60s Show” at 6PM Sun., March 6, in the College’s Madden Theatre, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Menzie and Michael celebrate their 10th anniversary as one of Chicago’s most beloved duos, performing music from the idyllic early Motown sound and British invasion to the angst of Woodstock. Tickets are $35 and $30.

March 10, Music: NCC presents the Winter Concert featuring its Concert Winds and Symphonic Band ensembles at 7PM Thurs., March 10, in the College’s Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Performance music ranges from standard concert band literature to 20th century experimental music. Tickets are $5 and $3.

March 10-13, Theatre: Organic Theater Company presents five performances of “The Good Doctor” at 7:30PM March 10-12 and at 2PM March 12-13 in NCC’s theatre at Meiley-Swallow Hall, 31 S. Ellsworth St. Famed American playwright Neil Simon takes the works of Russian legend Anton Chekhov and delivers a fast-paced, laugh-out-loud evening of short stories. Tickets are $30 and $20.

March 12, Music: Chicago Sinfonietta performs “BYOB: Bring Your Own Beat” at 8PM Sat., March 12, in NCC’s Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Focusing on the beat and simplicity of music, Chicago Sinfonietta features William Grant Still’s “Festive Overture,” Ricardo Lorenz’s “Maracas Concerto” and a fun-filled finale. Tickets are $60, $48 and $10.

March 19, Music: NCC presents “I Am Ireland” at 8PM Sat., March 19, in the College’s Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. “I am Ireland” is performed by celebrated Irish tenor Paddy Homan and his three-piece band, honoring the 100th anniversary of the 1916 Rising in Ireland. Tickets are $30 and $20.

March 20, Music: DuPage Symphony Orchestra presents “Celebrate the Season” at 3PM Sun., March 20, in NCC’s Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. The Palm Sunday concert includes famous works by Mendelssohn and Respighi and a performance by the first-place winner of the DSO’s 2016 Young Artists Auditions for area high school musicians. Tickets range from $37.50 to $14.50.
