The Kane County Cougars, a Geneva-based Class A minor league baseball team, made Family Shelter Service the beneficiary of its 50/50 raffle for the months of August and September. Wheaton-based Family Shelter Service offers help and hope to those affected by domestic violence in DuPage County. The donation was made at the Cougars’ game on September 7, where Family Shelter Service was presented with a check for $4,764.

Family Shelter Service Development Director Robbie MacRoy accepted the donation on behalf of Family Shelter Service.

“The Cougars are truly committed to making a difference in our community,” MacRoy said. “We were really pleased to be able to partner with them in this endeavor and thank them from the bottom of our hearts on behalf of the countless individuals we help each year who are struggling with domestic violence.”

This was the 24th season for the baseball team, which has donated more than $12,000 from 50/50 proceeds to several community-centered causes during the 2015 season through their monthly charity initiatives.

Founded in 1976, Family Shelter Service  assists victims of domestic violence, helping them to rebuild their lives and break the cycle of domestic violence for themselves, their families and future generations.
