“Bill Dawe has been a part of The Conservation Foundation for a very long time,” said Chere Hayes, Director of Advancement at The Conservation Foundation.
According to Hayes, Dawe was there on the day the Conservation Foundation moved into their headquarters at McDonald Farm, hauling in desks and files cabinets. He also flipped pancakes at their very first pancake breakfast, and all the rest to follow.
“We have relied on Bill for so many things; we just think of him as part of the team,” Hayes added.
The Conservation Foundation works to protect the beautiful natural areas and open spaces of northeastern Illinois. Dawe has proven that he believes strongly in the mission of The Conservation Foundation and demonstrates his love for nature by the way he lives his life.
“Bill has cared for McDonald Farm as if it were his own, mending farm fences, pulling weeds, repairing the outbuildings and doing just about anything that needs to be done,” said Hayes. “He has served on the Earth Day Benefit Dinner committee for over ten years and has solicited countless donations for the silent auction. It is a common sight to see Bill walk into the office in early April loaded down with donated items and ready to go out for more. Bill is also a generous donor to The Conservation Foundation and shares his money and well as his time.”
In addition, Dawe gives generously to other organizations as well, helping at his church and the West Chicago Prairie, to name just a couple.
“Bill feels a real conviction to make the world a better place. It’s just who he is. We feel so lucky to have him as a part of our family,” Hayes said.
