My food adventure this month took a Cajun trip to Heaven on Seven, located at 224 S. Main St. in downtown Naperville.
A little history behind the restaurant is that Chef Jimmy Bannos, owner of Heaven on Seven, started out bussing tables in his family restaurant. After getting out of cooking school in 1980, he and his parents opened a “neighborhood restaurant” in the middle of the loop on the seventh floor of the Garland Building and the “New Garland Coffee Shop” was born.
It was in 1984, while experimenting with Louisiana recipes, that Jimmy’s real passion for cooking emerged. In 1985, the Bannos family transformed their neighborhood coffee shop into “Heaven on Seven.” In 2003, Heaven on Seven opened in downtown Naperville.
To begin with we ordered the “gotta try one of these” Jalapeno cheddar corn muffins …. All I can say is AMAZING! For an appetizer I tried the Cajun Fried catfish bites with Jimmy’s homemade tartar sauce. The breading is Cajun spicy and is a little peppery – they are not greasy and it perfectly deep friend. The tartar sauce has a unique flavoring and adds to the bites. Definitely on my favorites appetizer list!
For the main course I had the Chicken Voodoo Enchiladas, they were very good. They came with rice and a salad. The enchiladas had tomatoes, cheese, chicken and a spicy enchiladas sauce, so watch out cause it has a kick, but I would still highly recommend it for all the heat friendly stomachs.
So if you are taking a stroll down by the Riverwalk on a crisp fall day, stop in and warm up at Heaven on Seven and tell them Jack sent you!
