During October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, three Chicagoland seafood and premium steak restaurants—Catch 35/Chicago, Catch 35/Naperville and Lloyd’s Chicago— are teaming up to heighten awareness about ABCD (After Breast Cancer Diagnosis). Their aim also is to help raise funds for the national ABCD Helpline with a “Dessert for the Cause” promotion.
During the month-long promotion all of the Taste America Group full service restaurants will donate 100 percent of the profits of every dessert sold to this charitable cause.
“Our executive chef, Eddie Sweeney, has created a special dessert to commemorate our commitment to this worthwhile cause and all of our whipped topping desserts will feature pink whipped topping during the month of October,” explained Sam Berngard, partner Taste America Group.
“However, we didn’t want to limit our patrons’ taste buds to just one dessert, we wanted to offer them an array of dessert choices that will all benefit the cause. We are even encouraging patrons to ‘take one for the cause’ if they’re full after their lunch or dinner with special take out packaging.”
ABCD provides Helpline / Hotline
Berngard went on to explain that when Chicago based Y-Me closed its doors last year, the services the organization had provided were left void in one area of breast cancer patient support. That area was a national Helpline/Hotline where individuals who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and their families can call to get support around the clock.
“ABCD now provides that service nationwide and we’re pleased we can support that work with our ‘Dessert for a Cause’ promotion this month,” Berngard added.
“We’re excited that Taste America Group restaurants are helping us raise funds for our Helpline,” said ABCD executive director, Ginny Finn. “The promotion is more than generous because 100 percent of profits is almost never part of a charitable giving program, so we’re extremely grateful for the support and generosity of this unique promotion.”
According to Finn, the goal/mission of ABCD is similar to Y-Me in that the organization doesn’t want anyone to experience the breast cancer journey alone at any time.
“We want to be able to continue to serve breast cancer patients and their families and friends with one-to-one mentoring through our Helpline, and fundraising events like ‘Dessert for a Cause’ generate funds to enable us to do just that,” Finn said.
The Dessert for a Cause promotion begins Tues., Oct. 1 and runs through Oct. 31.
