Kreger’s Brat and Sausuage Haus, one of Naperville’s oldest homegrown businesses beginning in 1893, recently had a block party to raise funds for cancer.
The block party began several years back to raise funds for breast cancer research in the memory of Steph Lesiecki. Today, it also raises funds for the Colorado based Shining Stars Foundation, which provides unique recreational experiences for kids with cancer and life threatening diseases.  The block party continues to grow each year.
Brain tumor survivor and lifetime Naperville resident Kevin Yndestad welcomed guests as they enjoyed brats and lively music performed by the Wright Street Band. “It’s crazy, but inspirational that all these people are here to support the cause for cancer.” said Yndestad. “I love brats and Kreger’s are the best in the world.” Yndestad is currently studying business at DePaul University and upon graduation, hopes to become the CEO of a ski area out west.
Bill Kreger’s nephew, Matt Dingeldein served up brats and explained, ” brats aren’t just sausage, they’re a way of life. They are more existential than sausage.”
Kreger’s donated all the handmade sausage served during the block party, an event that raised more than $4,500 in just four hours.

Kreger’s will be participating from 2 – 5:30PM Sun., Sept. 22 in the Make-a-Wish Foundation’s 2013 Chili Kickoff Cookoff at Nevin’s Brewery Company, 12337 South Rt. 59, in Plainfield.  They’ll be cooking up their famous white chili recipe as they compete against area restaurants and businesses. Â
