The Art of Connecting – Be mindful to make every day count

-

I want to write this story about how grateful I am for the blessings and people in my life. Most of us have homes, food to eat and people who support us. For many families, that is not the case. This column will highlight a few wonderful fundraisers, walks and charity events taking place in September.

haselhorstDuPagePads 9th Annual Run 4 Home (10K and 5K Run, 5K Walk), takes place from 8-9AM on Saturday, September 7. Funds raised from this event will help provide critical support services to individuals and families who are homeless in DuPage County. For more information or to register, visit www.padsrun.org.

Sunrise Rotary Club of Naperville is helping others around the world by holding its annual Harvest Moon Party from 7PM-midnight on Friday, September 27. Enjoy the evening by the pool at the White Eagle Members Clubhouse for live rock music, killer paella, craft beers on tap and a fine whiskey tasting. Prizes will be available in a Chinese-style silent auction, all to benefit Rotary projects in Haiti and Zambia. For tickets, visit www.harvestmoonparty.com.

As mentioned in my last column, “Scott’s Walk” is coming up from 8-10:30AM on Sun., Sept. 22, at the DuPage River Park. Scott Zager was a wonderful and smart young man when his life was cut short by cancer. The proceeds generated will benefit St. Baldrick’s Foundation to help fund research to find a cure for childhood cancers. Save the date and join the fight. For information, visit www.wsirish.org.

Being a member of the Naperville Jaycees, I know how helping a community in need can really make a difference in the lives of everyone involved — including one’s self. Whether donating funds, volunteering or walking for a good cause, we should all be grateful for what we have and what we can give back.

Just remember to make every day count.
