The Art of Connecting – Events contribute to worthy causes

-

Summer seems to go in a flash. August now is the month when kids head back to school and it feels like the season is ending. The heat still lingers, but the fun doesn’t stop! Some of my favorite activities happen this month.

First up, the 8th season of the West Suburban Irish Quiz Night at Quigley’s Irish Pub begins on Tues., Aug. 6. I mention it because I had a blast the last time I went. It’s always fun to test what’s stored in your mind with brain teasers and more. For all the details, thoughtful trivia themes, and insightful information about the West Suburban Irish, visit www.wsirish.org.

The biggest event with nearly a year of planning is the Naperville Jaycees Last Fling. If I didn’t mention it here, my co-volunteers might shun me.

haselhorstThis wonderful 4-day event is held throughout Labor Day weekend, beginning on Aug. 30. Members of the Jaycees volunteer tirelessly to put on an occasion where the proceeds go toward helping charities in Naperville and surrounding communities.

During Last Fling, Jackson Avenue in downtown Naperville is turned into a carnival with entertainment and music around every corner—not to mention a fast food wonderland. There are activities for children and adults. Personally, with my love of music, I will be watching The Goo Goo Dolls and Collective Soul perform on the Main Stage.

Bring your friends and embrace the end of summer with a celebration. For more information on tickets, sponsorship and activities, visit www.lastfling.org.

Lastly, while still awhile in the future, I want to tell about Scott’s Walk, an event dear to my heart. Being a part of Scott’s family, I must mention a special walk that takes place on Sept. 22 at the DuPage River Park. The proceeds generated will benefit St. Baldrick’s Foundation to help fund research to find a cure for childhood cancers. Save the date and join the fight.

August is here and September is near. End the summer with a bang and help out the community at the same time. As always, celebrate safely!
