Classic rock ‘n roll tunes return to Rock the Carillon on Sept. 15

Update Aug. 18 / Several hundred music lovers either sat on Rotary Hill or strolled along the Riverwalk during a two-hour show of medleys of classic rock tunes performed by City Carillonneur Tim Sleep.

The Century Walk sculpture depicts Margaret & Harold Moser, generous benefactors after whom the Moser Tower with the carillon is named.

The gorgeous summer afternoon also provided perfect weather for running up and rolling down the hill to music for many youngsters who likely sled here in the winter.

A second Rockin’ the Tower is slated for Sun., Sept. 15.  Stay tuned!

Free new event with 95.9 The River will be broadcast live at Rotary Hill

The Naperville Park District invites the community to the unique new event, Rockin’ the Tower, from 3:30-5:30PM  on Sunday, August 18 at the Moser Tower with the 72-bell Millennium Carillon.

City Carillonneur Tim Sleep will play medleys of classic rock & roll tunes, alternating with music from 95.9 The River, which will broadcast live from Rotary Hill. The audience will have the opportunity to name the songs and win prizes.

“We appreciate City Carillonneur Tim Sleep’s adventurous spirit in expanding the repertoire of the Carillon,” said Sameera Luthman, the Park District’s Director of Marketing and Communications. “He has played live Carillon music for Élan Dance Company’s performances, Halloween-themed pieces for the SCARE-illon, and duets with other live instruments,” she said. “Why not rock & roll?”

The public is encouraged to stop by Rotary Hill for this inaugural event, and to bring chairs and blankets to enjoy the beautiful outdoor setting. A second Rockin’ the Tower concert is planned for Sun., Sept. 15, 2013.

Editor’s Note: Sounds very much like a fun television game show called “Name That Tune” first made popular in the late 1950s. Two contestants competed to test their knowledge and recognition of songs, noting, “I can name that tune in four notes.”
