Well, we are settling back into the rhythm in Naperville.
This month, we went to the Civil War Days reenactment at Naperville Settlement (this is the kick off of the summer activities at the living history museum). It was a beautiful weekend with perfect weather. We really enjoyed the entire event along with 4,000 other attendees. It went very smoothly (even with the fire at the fort) – thanks to all of the staff and volunteers who were there all weekend.
The re-enactors really get into their parts – and they enjoy it when people ask questions about their characters. They want you to ask questions as if they were Lincoln, General Lee or General Grant . These guys really know their history. Mike and I both loved how all the reenactors interacted with the kids. They talked with everyone who came up to them and posed for pictures.
Re-enactors even camped out over the weekend. Mike enjoyed the smells of the campfires – they reminded him of his days in Boy Scouts.
Looking forward to the next big event – Naper Nights which starts on June 21, the first day of summer. There will be music on both Friday and Saturday nights. Sullivan’s will be providing the food so this is a great time to bring out a blanket or folding chairs and enjoy a summer night wilth great music. Hope to see you all there.
Another event coming up on our calendar is Little Friends Step Up For Autism Walk on June 23 in downtown Naperville on the Riverwalk. The site to sign up for this fundraiser is www.stepupforautism2013.kintra.org.
Full disclosure requires us to let you know that Mike is on the Little Friends Board of Directors and is the Executive Director of Naper Settlement. (These commitments keep him out of trouble a little bit!)
