I really never thought I would be writing a column. My major in college was biology — never been a real “writer” per se. But when it comes to my passion for the performing arts, I could write a novel.
Ever since my first performance as Frosty the Snowman in first grade, I have had a love for singing and the performing arts. As I grew up, I got involved in different choirs, groups, plays and Naperville North High School musicals. While vocal performance was not my major in school, I wanted to keep music as my main hobby in life. Even now after college, I continue to sing in the Apollo Chorus of Chicago.
Now that I have been out of school for three years, getting involved in the Naperville community is something else I have made a hobby. The Naperville Jaycees is a wonderful nonprofit organization that helps out the local community in many ways. Coming up on May 11, the Jaycees are hosting their annual Lobster Days fundraiser.
Filets and lobsters are for sale just in time for Mother’s Day, so get your orders in now at www.naperjaycees.org!
In addition to Lobster Days, many events are coming up in May.
The biggest and most memorable event is the Memorial Day parade beginning at 10:30AM Monday, May 27, in downtown Naperville. This annual tradition brings the city together for fun, patriotism and tributes. The parade ends with a concert and observance in Central Park starting at 12:15PM. This year, in addition to the Municipal Band, the Young Naperville Singers will be performing during the 45-minute Memorial Day tribute.
I know I will be there to see my old YNS choir in action. After all, I do love a great show.
