We’re slowly but surely coming out of this belated winter into spring, which means that now is the time to start thinking about what items need to be cleared from your home inventory! Among the millions of pounds of garbage thrown out each year by households across America during their spring cleaning sessions, a large amount could actually have been recycled and reused. This year, I’ve provided a guide on what can be recycled and how to develop a habit of recycling regularly. Here are some tips for these months to come.
Make sure you know what can be recycled:
- Computers, televisions, printers, DVD players, and other electronic devices
- Heavy duty appliances such as clothes dryers, refrigerators, heaters, and furnaces
- Corrugated cardboard
- Aluminum, glass, steel, and plastic cans and bottles
- Magazines, catalogs, and old homework
- Vehicle batteries, waste tires
- Waste oils and oil filters
- Yard waste
And come up with a plan to become an environmentally friendly family!
For instance, teach your children about recycling from a young age. Go out of your way to recycle at least one item each day. Focus on reusing objects in innovative ways. Keep track of how much you throw away in one day.
Also, donate old yet functional items, such as old cell phones, to recycling treatment plants.
With these tips, you’ll be on your way to becoming a more “greener” you!
