NSJTL Team Cup has a champ

-

Twenty-eight Junior Tennis Teams participated in the Naperville Summer Junior Tennis League grand finale, the 2012 Team Cup Championships, on Aug. 3.

More than 144 high school and younger players formed teams of four to eight players who competed at six different sites in Naperville for the right to move on to the finals of this team event.

The 93-degree weather did not deter any of the players from contesting some matches that often went down to the last match on court.

The NSJTL Team Cup has become for Naperville what the Davis Cup and the Fed Cup events are for international tennis.

In a stunning turn of events, both the high school and junior  high teams from River Run and Stillwater defeated all challengers to make it to the finals in their divisions.

When the River Run high school team defeated Stillwater in the final match, the Stillwater team of Druv Vohra, Nolan George, Elliot Stemen, Owen Stemen and Blake Adams, in true Olympic spirit and with fierce determination, pulled off a stunning victory over their River Run by a narrow two game margin.

The Naperville Summer Junior Tennis League is made up of 26 teams, representing 14 clubs in the Naperville area, who meet on Friday afternoons. The season finales are two tournaments, with the Team Cup representing a unique team experience.
