Transitions – Naperville Women’s Triathlon

-

I’ve mentioned sporting events several times in this column. My favorite was embarking on my first 5K… for bacon. The reward, besides the health benefit, was unlimited freshly cooked bacon. I love bacon!

At the other end of the spectrum, my son-in-law has done four Ironman triathlons. He has not done one in three years—training with a toddler was a stretch—so my daughter told him. He is, however, doing a half Ironman this summer.

What about people who are not in the running for the bacon or the pain?

There is the Gildan Esprit de She Triathlon at Centennial Beach on Sun., June 11. Many choose this event because it’s a triathlon that welcomes first-timers, no extreme effort here.

Chicago’s Andrea Metcalf, one of the nation’s top fitness experts, says it can be done if you’re prepared. “Conquering a serious undertaking like a race or triathlon is about setting and sharing the goal, getting the right gear, how you fuel up the day of and before, warming-up for the challenges and partnering up for support.”

The Gildan Esprit de She Triathlon partners with Girls on the Run helping to expand programming for more girls in the community and is the official local charitable partner of the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance (OCRFA), the largest global organization dedicated to fighting ovarian cancer.

The Gildan Esprit de She Naperville Triathlon was born out of the SheROX Triathlon previously held in Naperville. It starts off at Centennial Beach, and runs along the Riverwalk Park.

I’ve often said I would try this triathlon, but they don’t offer bacon.
