Naperville Garden Club is proud to announce our 2017-2018 Scholarship Recipients!
Jonathan Buettner- llinois State University, Horticulture and Landscape Management; Cory Burkwald- Michigan Technological University, Geological Science; Nicholas Bushelle- University of Iowa, Environmental Law; Lily Neppl- Purdue University, Landscape Architecture; William Provost-Iowa State University, Biosystems Engineering; Abigail Scifers- Northern Illinois University, Geology; Kelly Shugh-Clemson University, Environmental and Natural Resources; L. Ashley Yu- University of Illinois, Agricultural and Consumer Economics; Kirby Miller-Naperville Central College, Biology (Recipient of the Naperville Garden Club Scholarship in memory of Marie Mackenzie and Mary Quilty).
Several of these students have received scholarships throughout their college years. It is such a pleasure to watch them grow from high school seniors to contributing members of our world. We invite them to our annual meeting in May and are able to get to know them. Students may apply each year and if they continue to meet the requirements of our application, we award scholarships based on the success of our fundraisers, primarily our major fundraiser, the Cup of Cheer™ House Walk, Holiday Market and Tea.
For 2017, the Cup of Cheer™ House Walk will be held Thurs., November 30 and Fri., December 1.
Our Garden Walk, Sat. June 10, also will provide funds to support our scholarships. One of the gardens has been featured in Chicagoland Gardening magazine. A vendor at one of the gardens is “reLoved,” selling items that reflect the vendor’s passion to give our belongings a second life. She updates furniture, turns old balls- soccer, football, basketball- into clever planters, and paints used jars into adorable vases. I save jars during the winter and then give bouquets in those jars to my friends. I don’t worry about getting my “vases” back and it reminds me to cut and give a bouquet to someone, sharing my garden.
