Visitor screening process

For the safety and protection of patients, staff, physicians and the community, visitor screening is taking place at all Edward-Elmhurst Health (EEH) locations.

All visitors and patients will be screened for a temperature greater than 100 degrees before entering EEH sites.

Anyone with a temperature greater than 100 degrees will be asked to return home and contact their physician for further instruction.

Anyone with a temperature greater than 100 degrees AND respiratory symptoms, including cough, will be asked to put on a mask, return to their car and proceed to the emergency department.

Reminder – patients should avoid bringing family members/guests with them to appointments as visitors are being restricted at all sites.

Visitor restrictions

Until further notice, EEH is not allowing visitors in most of inpatient and outpatient areas. Exceptions have been made for certain patient groups, including pediatric patients and infants.

The following changes have been implemented at Edward and Elmhurst Hospitals:

  • No one under the age of 18 may visit.
  • No visitors will be allowed in adult inpatient units.
  • Exception: Critically ill/end of life patients – the number of visitors will be managed by the care team.
  • Exception: Pediatric patient population, including general pediatrics, PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit), NICU (Newborn Intensive Care Unit), Special Care Nursery and patients under the age of 18 may have two visitors.
  • Patients in the Mother/Baby Unit may have one partner. While in Labor and Delivery, patients can have one partner.
  • Adult patients undergoing surgery may have one visitor for the duration of the procedure.
  • The visitor policy for EEH outpatient clinic locations is as follows:
  • Patients in outpatient clinics may have one support person
  • Patients having outpatient surgery may have one support person.
  • Patients for outpatient laboratory testing or radiology therapy may have one support person.
  • Emergency Department patients may have one support person.
  • No one under the age of 18 will be allowed as a support person.

Cancer Center: No visitors are allowed in the infusion area. EEH encourages dropping off infusion patients at the door. EEH staff will be available for patients who require an escort. The patient’s support person will be notified when the patient is ready for pick-up.
