Will Naperville vote in the 2019 Consolidated Election on April 2?

-

Above / Years ago this random “Vote” sign was planted among many campaign signs in the landscape along Naperville-Plainfield Road. Unfortunately, even with new signs and social media efforts, voter turnout was low for the 2019 Consolidated Election when local matters most. (PN File Photo)

Update, April 3, 2019 / Naperville voters returned incumbents Mayor Steve Chirico, Paul Hinterlong and Patty Gustin to City Council. Newcomers Patrick Kelly and Theresa Sullivan were elected to serve four-year seats on City Council.

City Councilman Paul Hinterlong, right, was joined by vote counters and friends at the VFW who noted the incumbent tallied the most votes of any candidate in the 2019 Naperville Consolidated Election. Unfortunately, with 31 candidates in the race, time did not permit visiting every Election Night Watch Party. Thanks to everyone who ran!

Voters in School District 203 elected two incumbents Janet Yang Rohr and Kristine Gericke and first-time candidate Joseph Kosminski to serve four-year terms on the Board of Education.

In School District 204, all three incumbents, Natasha Grover, Mark Rising and Justin Karubas, were re-elected to  four years.

Annette Corrigan of Wheaton and Maureen Dunn of Naperville were elected to serve on the College of DuPage Board of Trustees.

Voters in Naperville Township voted against a binding referendum to merge road districts in Naperville and Lisle townships.

The opportunity to serve one of three 4-year seats on the Naperville Park District Board of Commissioners was without competition. Incumbents Rich Janor and Marie Todd will be joined by newcomer Josh McBroom.

Note: At this time, all race results are deemed “unofficial” until every vote is tallied, including valid provisional ballots from Election Day and Vote-by-Mail ballots postmarked by Election Day, April 2, 2019. Then 21 calendar days after an Election, the results are canvassed and become official.

Original Post, March 31, 2019 / Saved in PN’s photo archive, the picture of the GET OUT THE VOTE! sign sponsored by the Exchange Club of Naperville is a forever reminder that every citizen has a choice and a right to vote. And every vote comes with a cost of being informed. Thanks to everyone in the community for taking time to get to know all 31 candidates running in the 2019 Consolidated Election.

Even though voters in School District 203 and School District 204 will not vote for candidates running to serve in both school districts, knowledge of the candidates in the school district that does not serve your residence is still important.

Here’s hoping by now voters have attended meet & greets, viewed public forums and/or visited the candidates’ websites.

Before Early Voting began, a sample ballot published by the DuPage County Clerk Election Division became available that shows how the candidates will appear at the voting booth. The races that aim to attract Naperville voters are featured below…
