In many cases here in America, the zip code you’re born into may have the ability to determine your future. Sometimes these divisions exist mere miles from each other, in zip codes that are just one number apart. However, the Naperville YMCAs believe everyone deserves the same opportunities, no matter who you are or where you’re from.
The Y is committed to helping bridge these gaps nationwide. Here in Naperville the Y aims to build equity and close opportunity gaps through our Annual Campaign. This community campaign raises funds to support the Y’s Financial Assistance Program and our commitment to not turn anyone away for an inability to pay. Annually, the Naperville YMCAs provide more than $400,000 in scholarships to youth, adults and families who need it most. The Y does this for programs like Safe N Sound (before and after school), summer day camp, educational preschool and family nights, to name just a few.
Our goal is to strengthen our community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. We’re proud to offer the Y’s Financial Assistance Program to help ensure everyone can thrive, regardless of who they are or where they’re from.
To highlight these zip code disparities, the Y Nationally has launched “One Number.” You may have seen the 60 second spot on channels like MSNBC, CNN and Fox. This campaign showcases real stories of Y members across the country in several different zip codes, just one number apart, highlighting the dramatic contrasts between their circumstances and how the Y helps each of them overcome the challenges they face.
