The following information was included in an e-mail on September 17, 2015, from Naperville School District 203 regarding upcoming events. Occasional posts such as this one on PN’s website aim to provide an overview of some of the upcoming opportunities being provided by the schools that serve Naperville.

*** Indicates “Community Events”

***Legislative Breakfast

District 204 is hosting a joint legislative breakfast with District 200 and District 203 at 7:30AM on September 18 at Still Middle School. Legislators who represent all three school districts will join board members and superintendents in an informal conversation about public education. This event is open to the community.

(Watch for story about this morning’s breakfast likely to appear in local daily newspapers. For starters,  Chicago Tribune.)

Big Ten College Night

In a typical year, between 15-20 percent of all District 203 graduates attend Big Ten Universities.  To complement family campus visits and individual representative visits to each high school, Naperville North High School has organized the first-ever “Big Ten University Night” where all 14 schools of the country’s most respected conference will be under one roof.  Have aspirations of being a Hawkeye or Fighting Illini?  A Scarlet Night?  Ever dreamed about sitting in the Big House or the ‘Shoe for “The Game?”  Thought about delving in to journalism at Northwestern or history in Madison?

NNHS invites D203 families and students to this exciting event at 7PM on September 24, 2015, in the NNHS Field House.  Hear an overview of each school, and join us immediately following for a Big Ten College Fair – where you will have access to representatives from Penn State to Maryland to Purdue!

Naperville North High School looks forward to seeing the Redhawk and Huskie families on this one-of-a-kind evening!

NCHS Parent Information Series

On Monday, September 21, 2015 from 7:00-8:30PM, Adam Russo, LCSW will present

“SHOULD YOU LET YOUR CHILD FAIL?” in the LRC at Naperville Central High School.  Please join us to learn about the importance and role of failure in a child’s social, emotional and educational development.  This is a great opportunity for parents with students of all ages to learn how to help their children benefit from their failures, rather than be paralyzed by them.

For more information about this event, as well as a list of dates and topics for the Senior High 2015-16 Parent Program Series, click here.

Junior High Parent Information Series

On September 30, 2015 from 6:30-8PM, Kennedy Jr. High School Officer Rob Sommer and School Counselor Rochelle Northrup will present on the topic of Pre-Teens and Social Media. Come hear about “the good, the bad and the ugly” as it relates to social media sites/apps students are using. This is a great introductory program for parents with students of any age wanting a basic understanding of popular social media sites, and why monitoring and guidance is so important.

This target audience is for parents. We recommend that you do not bring your child to this presentation. For a list of dates and topics of the 2015-16 Junior High Parents Series, click here.

***Ellsworth H&S Fall Clothing Resale

The Ellsworth H&S 2015 Fall Clothing Resale will be held the week of September 28 – October 2.  The Ellsworth gym is converted into a children’s and Junior’s resale shop during this week.  The Fall and Spring Clothing Resales are the largest fundraisers for the school, earning over 60% of our revenue for the year.  Income from the sale is used for various educational and enrichment programs, materials, and equipment for Ellsworth students and staff.  In addition, our sale provides a great service to our community by providing a place to buy gently used clothing, shoes, sports equipment, and accessories at a low cost.  Also when the sale is over many of the items will be donated to needy families here in Naperville.  We need your support to make this fundraiser a success!  There are several ways that you can help make this sale a success.  Sell clothes, Donate gently used clothes (100% of the profits from donated clothes goes to the school!), Volunteer to work a shift or two (When you volunteer you are able to shop before the sale opens to the public!), Provide a meal or snack for the volunteers or Shop the sale! For more information about the sale please visit our webpage www.naperville203.org/ellsworthclothingresale.  Please sign up on the websitewww.myconsignmentmanager.com/ellsworthclothingresale to sell or volunteer.
