Under the Stars & Stripes Camp Out
Campout_2013_007Bring the entire family for a unique overnight camping experience from 5PM Friday, June 13 through 10AM Saturday, June 14 on the beautiful grounds of Naper Settlement, 523 S. Webster St., Naperville. Enjoy a catered dinner, games, geocaching, roasted marshmallows and a sing-a-long. Awake in the morning to a continental breakfast and tour of select historic buildings before the gates open to the public. Individual campsite fires or cooking are not permitted. Fee is $30 ages 13 to adults; $25 youth 4-12 and $12 children under 4. Pre-registration by June 11 is required; call (630) 420-6010. Visit www.napersettlement.org.

Settlement Sundays
Father’s Day, June 15, kicks off Settlement Sundays, a community ice cream social, held from 1 to 4PM every Sunday through Aug. 24 (except July 13). Admission to the museum includes free sundaes with do-it-yourself toppings, hands-on family activities and tours of historic buildings. Ice cream from Culver’s is served from 2-3:30PM. Admission is $12 adults, $10 seniors, $8 youth 4-12; Naperville residents, children 3 and under and members are free. Visit www.napersettlement.org.

Camp Naper 
Is your child an explorer, detective, artist or all of the above? Camp Naper has programs that put children in grades 1-8 in the center of the action. Camps are held from 9AM to 3PM from June 16 through Aug. 1. One-day, two-day and weeklong camps and a three-day Civil War camp offer a wide variety of enrichment activities from art to science and more. All camps are run by professional staff. Naper Nights Community Concert Series
Naper Nights Community Concert Series sets the stage for nonstop music during three summer weekends in June, July and August as the History of Rock continues at Naper Settlement, 523 S. Webster St., Naperville. Michael McDermott and the Duke Street Kings perform the music of Bruce Springsteen Friday, June 20 with opening act Deacon Blues paying tribute to Steely Dan. Mike and Joe will sing the greatest pop and rock hits from the ’90s to today onSaturday, June 21 with opening act Fortunate Sons playing the music of Creedence Clearwater Revival. Gates open at 5PM. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy music under the stars. A Taste of Naperville is provided by Hugo’s Frog Bar and Fish House. Tickets are $15 adults, $10 youth 4-12. Happy Birthday Martin Mitchell Mansion
Join us for a special 130th birthday celebration of the Martin Mitchell Mansion from 1 to 4PM Sunday June 29.  During the summer of 1884, George Martin and his wife, Sibelia, and their children moved into their new, two-story, 12-room brick residence. Enjoy a mini-cupcake with ice cream, take a tour of the Mansion and play games. Be on hand for the beginning of a yearlong “Pass the Plate” journey as a special commemorative dish is filled and passed throughout the community.  Track the plate each month on Naper Settlement’s website, Facebook page and follow us on Twitter. Free ice cream sundaes by Culver’s are part of the day’s festivities. Admission is $12 adults, $10 seniors, $8 youth 4-12. Naperville residents, children 3 and under and members are free.

Wednesday Walking Club

Join fellow walkers for this free, healthy lifestyle program held from 8 to 9AM on Wednesdays through Oct. 29, at Naper Settlement, 523 S. Webster St., Naperville. Choose your route through the beautiful museum grounds, with a longer circuit option along the Riverwalk. Sign in at the Pre-Emption House Tavern, log your minutes and then enjoy a healthy treat. History comes to life at Naper Settlement, an outdoor history museum, located in downtown Naperville at 523 S. Webster St. Accredited by the American Association of Museums, Naper Settlement has 30 historic structures ranging from a rustic log cabin to an elegant Victorian mansion, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
