Teen’s View of Opera – Outreach outlook: Lyric’s Discovery Series and Met ticket giveaway

-

Chicago’s Lyric Opera continues to expand its outreach and public accessibility. This month, Lyric’s annual Stars of Millennium Park concert (7:30PM, Sep. 7) welcomes the 2013-2014 season in traditional fashion, but so much more is on the way.

Ried_emInitiatives span from a new commission (based on Ann Patchett’s “Bel Canto” and set to debut in 2015-2016) to the five-year American Musical Theatre Initiative (featuring world-renowned soprano Christine Brewer as Mother Abyss and Ryan Center alumna Elizabeth Futral as Baroness Schraeder in May’s “The Sound of Music.”)

The latest development this season is Lyric’s Discovery Series. For each of the eight 2013-2014 productions, Lyric will bring together top creative contributors (conductors, directors, singers) in an hour-long panel discussion moderated by Lyric’s own dramaturg Roger Pines. These events will be held in the Lyric’s Grand Foyer (with the exception of the “Parsifal” discussion which will occur at the Art Institute of Chicago) and cost $16 each or $104 for all eight.

These exciting events will help bring audiences “behind-the-scenes” much like the backstage interviews during intermissions of the Met’s live movie theatre broadcasts. Meanwhile, thanks to the generosity of Fathom Events, distributor of the Met: Live in HD cinema series, PN readers can also enjoy these Met performances and backstage features by winning a pair of movie theatre tickets to the broadcast of Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin (11:55AM, Oct. 5) at the Regal Cantera 17 in Warrenville.

To enter to win tickets, please email emilyriederer@gmail.com with your name and address.
