Fifty years—now that’s something worth raising a glass to. Cheers to the moments that brought us here, the people who’ve been part of the journey, and all the laughter, growth and connection along the way. As we hit the halfway point of this anniversary year, it feels a little like we’re mid‑toast—smiling, reminiscing and already excited for what we’re about to celebrate next.
Speaking of raising a glass, our very own WDSRA 50th Anniversary Lager has arrived! Just in time for July and summer celebrations, this special collaboration with Pollyanna Brewing & Distilling (Roselle) gives you a fun way to celebrate 50 years of impact with us. For every anniversary lager sold in July, $1 will be donated back to WDSRA, helping support our programs and families. Stop by Pollyanna Brewing & Distilling (Roselle location @ 245 E. This summer, we’re inviting you—our friends, families and community—to celebrate right alongside us at two very special events designed just for you.
First up, is some good old-fashioned fun at our Friends & Family BINGO event from 2–4PM on Sunday, July 19 at the Wheaton Park District Community Center (registration required). Whether you’re in it for the thrill of the win or just looking for a relaxed afternoon with friendly faces, this event promises plenty of laughs, a little luck and a whole lot of connection. Registration includes 10 games of Bingo, popcorn, water and some truly fun prizes. Bring your crew, your competitive spirit and get ready to shout “BINGO!”—because spots are limited and this one is sure to fill up quickly.
Then, we’ll wrap up the summer in a big way with our 50th Anniversary Block Party on Sunday, August 30 from 1–4PM at the Riverwalk Grand Pavilion in Naperville. This free event (registration required) is our way of saying thank you to the community that has supported us for five decades. And when we say “block party,” we mean it—this will be a full afternoon of fun for all ages. From inflatables, obstacle courses and carnival games to a petting zoo, face painting and a dunk tank (yes, really!), there will be something for everyone to enjoy. Add in live music, food trucks, a photo booth and interactive games like Giant Jenga and Connect Four, and you’ve got the recipe for a celebration we won’t soon forget. We hope you’ll come out, bring your family and help us make this milestone one to remember.

Of course, one of the things that has made these 50 years so meaningful is the incredible network of partners who help create opportunities for our families to connect, participate and thrive. This summer, we’re especially grateful to the organizations that continue to go above and beyond—adapting their programs to ensure they are welcoming, inclusive and accessible.
Our friends at Studio Movie Grill in Wheaton continue to offer sensory-friendly Special Needs Screenings on at 11AM select Saturdays, with lights up, sound lowered and a welcoming atmosphere where moving, talking and even dancing are encouraged. It’s a simple adjustment that makes a big difference for many families—and we’re so thankful for their ongoing commitment. Tickets are free for the individual with special needs and their family. Similarly, both the Naperville Park District and the Glen Ellyn Park District have created thoughtful aquatic experiences tailored for individuals with sensory needs. Naperville’s Special Needs Swim Nights at Centennial Beach (July 19) offer a calm, after-hours environment, while Glen Ellyn’s Sensory Swim Night at Sunset Pool (July 14 and August 10) removes many of the typical sensory triggers—no music, no whistles, no water features—creating a gentler, more inclusive experience for all. And closer to home, the Sensory Garden Playground in Lisle will host its Beach Bash on July 18 and Storybook Adventure on August 15. They bring a playful twist to summer fun with accessible activities, games and special treats.
