Summer is here, and the time goes quickly. Looking for something different to do as a family this season? Try these activities to bring the whole family together this summer.
Celebrate the World Cup
- The World Cup comes around every four years, and this year the U.S., Mexico, and Canada are hosting a larger group of teams than every before.
- Follow your favorite team and go all out with painted faces and fun chants. Invite friends over for a big game and serve snacks from the rivaling countries.
- Pick a country you don’t know well and enjoy a meal of their native foods either at a local restaurant or by finding some recipes to try. Play their music while you eat and learn a few phrases of their language to teach each other.
Have a 1:1 soccer tournament of your own, with each person representing their favorite country. Present a World Cup t-shirt as the grand prize.
Plan a Game Day
An outdoor game day can be a great way to have some easy fun together. Pack as many different outdoor games as you can: yard darts, cornhole, bocce balls, paddleball, croquet, frisbee, etc. Take a cooler of snacks and head to a park for an afternoon of play.
Host an Easy Weeknight Party
Summer weekends fill up fast. Try hosting a simple weeknight gathering, like an Ice Cream Social. Invite family friends, schoolmates and neighbors. Provide everything for cones, sundaes, ice cream floats and banana splits. Listen to summer music or hang a sheet and project a summer movie. Give a prize for the most delicious ice cream creation.
Find a Local Festival
Local communities have music nights, summer festivals, carnivals, art shows and more all summer long. Check local listings to find a new community celebration and join the fun!
