The cost of diapers has increased overall at twice the rate of inflation since 2019. One in two U.S. families struggles to provide enough diapers to keep a baby or toddler clean, dry and healthy. Nearly one in two Chicagoland families is in need of help to pay for diapers. On average, a family will spend more than $1,000 a year for diapers and wipes.
The good news is that Huggies, a diaper manufacturer, has a matching program to help families in need right here in the Chicagoland area. They are partnering with Share Our Spare (a local nonprofit) in a HUGE diaper drive from 9AM to 1PM on Sat., June 20.
Join Chris, Nikki and Whip from The Morning Mix 101.9 as they broadcast LIVE from the Walmart Supercenter in Glen Ellyn at 3S 100 Rt. 53 at the corner of Butterfield Rd.
Huggies believes in supporting parents of babies, so they have agreed to match up to 250,000 diapers on June 20. Depending on the size of the box, that’s more than 4,000 boxes! Their program is called “Huggies – We Got You Baby!”
Sometimes families have one-half full boxes or other quantities left over when babies grow out of a size. Parents often do not know what to do with open packages/boxes. As long as the individual diapers are clean, they can be donated!
Come by Walmart early on June 20 for sweet treats while they last. Let’s try to hit the full matching amount of diapers. Perhaps you could help by conducting a diaper drive in your neighborhood or at a women’s group or book club. Send me an email if you have more than 20 boxes to donate and need help transporting them to Glen Ellyn.
If you’re reading this after June 20, you can donate diapers to Hesed House or Waterleaf Women’s Center in Aurora and Sharing Connections in Downers Grove. If you cannot make the June 20 event, go to either WTMX.com, search Mix Events under What’s on Mix to donate or go to ShareOurSpare.org/donate-dollars.
