This Fourth of July, Naperville is going all out to celebrate America’s 250th birthday — and Naperville Responds For Veterans is inviting the entire community to be part of the historic moment.
On Saturday, July 4, the organization will host the Freedom Ruck March and Birthday Bash Block Party, a patriotic day of movement, music and community spirit honoring both our nation’s milestone anniversary and the veterans who have defended it.
The action kicks off early at the Riverwalk Grand Pavilion — located behind the Judd Kendall VFW at 912 Honorary Sindt Memorial Ct. — with registration and check-in beginning at 7AM. Opening ceremonies and the 4-mile Freedom Ruck March launch at 8AM.
Never heard of rucking?
It’s simpler than it sounds. As the fitness community describes it, rucking is just walking with a weighted backpack — a low-impact workout rooted in military training that’s as natural as carrying groceries or commuting with a bag. Whether you’re a fitness enthusiast or just looking for a meaningful morning walk, it’s an activity almost anyone can enjoy. And for this event, ruck packs aren’t even required — making the march accessible to everyone, from seasoned veterans to families with young children.
Following the march, the celebration moves to the Judd Kendall VFW for the Birthday Bash Block Party featuring food and beverages, and family-friendly activities packed with patriotic fun for all ages. Free parking is available on-site.

- $65 – Adult Freedom Ruck March + Food & Beverage Wristband
- $35 – Adult Food & Beverage Wristband Only
- $15 – Kid Food & Beverage Wristband Only
All registered ruckers will receive a commemorative swag bag and Memorial Ruck Patch, and event T-shirts will be available for purchase. Please note that food and beverages are available by wristband only — individual sales will not be offered at the event.
