The Naperville Municipal Band performed with the Waubonsie Valley Wind Ensemble on Sunday, March 22, in the newly renovated Waubonsie Valley High School auditorium. The Winter Concert, themed “The Greats,” celebrates lifelong musicianship and Music in Our Schools month. NMB Director Emily Binder and WVHS Fine Arts Chair Mark Duker highlighted Duker’s career and honored his grandfather with a performance of “The Pines of Rome.”
An earlier published feature in the print March edition of Positively Naperville included an interview with the retiring WVHS Fine Arts Chairman. The story titled “Naperville Municipal Band to Celebrate Greatness on March 22” also is included online with additional photos.
During the concert, the Naperville Municipal Band recognized its 2026 Indian Prairie School District 204 Scholarship Recipients. Scholarship recipients were Akshita Tripathi, French Horn, Crone Middle School; Luke Akers, Percussion, Fischer Middle School; Chloe Yaun, Oboe, Grainger Middle School; Claire Torrez, French Horn, Gregory Middle School; Archisman Ghosh, Clarinet, Hill Middle School; Logan Niziolek, Flute, Scullen Middle School; and Francesca Mieszala, Tenor Saxophone, Still Middle School.
Director Binder also recognized three Naperville Central High School interns that had been sharing their talents with the Naperville Municipal Band in recent months. Nate Haskell and Evan Lavoie both play clarinet. Alex Hostetler performs on trumpet.
Thanks to everybody in the community, especially local schools, for ongoing dedication in support of the arts.
