When you do a search for nonprofits in our area, you will be amazed at the seemingly endless list of organizations that work very hard to make the Naperville community better, stronger and more beautiful. Most organizations raise funds to help fulfill their goals by hosting fun events. It’s a win-win. Attendees have a great time while helping support worthy organizations.
Here are three of my favorites:
Loaves and Fishes Community Services (our local food pantry) recently hosted “Night to End Hunger and Transform Lives” at Hotel Arista with elegant dining. Awareness was raised about our neighbors in need and much needed funds were raised. Many other nonprofits donate groceries, service and money to help Loaves and Fishes help our neighbors who need a hand.
Cress Creek Garden Club may still have tickets for their 50th annual “Make It, Bake It” fundraiser. Set for Fri., Nov. 14, it will include luncheon, shopping, raffle prizes, etc. For information, www.cresscreekgardenclub.org. Profits enable the club to give scholarships, beautify Naperville with plantings around town, Garden Therapy projects with the elderly, etc.
My own garden club, the Naperville Garden Club, will host Cup of Cheer Home Tour, Holiday Market and Tea on Thurs., Dec. 4 (Preview day, limited tickets sold, $60) 9-4 and Fri., Dec. 5 ($45) 9-4. Tickets may be purchased online, napervillegardenclub.org. A 10% discount is available with the purchase of 10 tickets. Four homes are decorated for the holiday.
The Holiday Market at the VFW on Jackson Avenue provides holiday shopping and ticketholders can enjoy homemade cookies and receive a commemorative cup and saucer. Proceeds allow us to give scholarships to local students, provide educational opportunities, Garden Therapy projects with the elderly, etc.
Attending these fundraisers, or any others, will be lots of fun, a way to meet new friends and a great way to help the town we call home.
