Retiring Dick Dublinski, longtime director of Naperville’s Department of Public Works, was recognized by Mayor Scott Wehrli with a Mayoral Proclamation at the Sept. 16 City Council meeting.

Admittedly deeply touched by the recognition chock full of creative achievements, Dublinski was lauded for his dedicated service to Naperville that began in 1998. He is retiring on Oct. 2.

When his photo was posted on the Positively Naperville Facebook, many of his fans also recognized his “great service all the time.”

Christine Jeffries, former president of the Naperville Development Partnership, commented from Florida. “D2 was an amazing civil servant for the people of Naperville. Enjoy retirement—well earned.”

Jeffries’ remarks reminded us of a witty Dick Dublinski remark back in October 2017, a day when the City was hosting an East Ogden Corridor Open House. PN had noted a streetscape pictured in a rendering for proposed landscape upgrades at the corner of Ogden and Columbia that featured a large shiny “N.” The design was among attractive proposals to help brand the location so motorists could recognize when they’re in Naperville along that portion of Ogden.

In a light-hearted moment, someone asked, “What’s the ‘N’ stand for?”

And the Director of Public Works quickly quipped, “Knowledge.”

We, too, bid Dick Dublinski a fond farewell.

PN Ombudsman
An ombudsman is Scandinavian in origin dating back to Viking times; and refers to a community representative; usually acting independently on behalf of an organization, body of elected officials, or civic group. Thanks Scandinavia for inventing ombudsman.
