On September 18, the Fry Family Y hosted “An Evening of Celebration” in the Birck Family Innovation Gateway at Naper Settlement. The event honored more than a century of the YMCA’s community impact since its founding in 1910 beginning with the Kroehler YMCA, then located in downtown Naperville. Since 1995, the Fry Family Y has been located at 2120 95th Street.

More than 100 guests experienced the unveiling of a new YMCA exhibit highlighting the Y’s role in Naperville’s history of youth development, community wellness and family support.

Many in attendance shared meaningful Y stories that continue to inspire the Y’s future. Special thanks were directed to the Naperville YMCA board for their efforts in shepherding this exhibit into reality.

Folks in attendance, past and present YMCA staff and board members, also took time for this group photo.

An ombudsman is Scandinavian in origin dating back to Viking times; and refers to a community representative; usually acting independently on behalf of an organization, body of elected officials, or civic group. Thanks Scandinavia for inventing ombudsman.
